In 2006, UBX Tanzania Limited, formerly known as Business Connexion Tanzania Ltd (BCX), invested in creating a shared financial services ecosystem, starting with the inter-bank payment switch infrastructure known as UmojaSwitch. The primary goal was to enable banks to offer shared services to their customers at a lower transaction fee.

Our Financial Switch, UmojaSwitch, is a robust network of electronic payment and fund transfer channels that interconnect banks and other service providers. With connections to 18 banks and over 2 Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOS), our switch integrates with multiple entities involved in payment, clearing/switching, and settlement of transactions both in Tanzania and internationally. Offering an interoperable network of over 1,000 ATMs and a vast agency banking network, UmojaSwitch is capable of processing millions of transactions annually.
