Meet Millie Dewasi, the Chief Officer overseeing the Financial Services Ecosystem department at UBX. With a focus on delivering financial services to banks, SACCOS, mobile network operators, and fintech in Tanzania, Millie specializes in strategy, business development, and payments.
Millie holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing with a co-major in International Business from Swinburne University of Technology. With over eight years of experience in marketing and sales, coupled with five years dedicated to digital payments and project management, she brings a wealth of expertise to her leadership role.
Millie recalls several times during her schooling years abroad, her parents would send her money through services such as western union or telegraphic transfer which was very expensive and time consuming. When the transfer was done, she would have to go a distance to get access to an ATM so she can withdraw her allowance. But these days services powered by UBX such as mobile banking, agency banking and shared ATM networks have enabled Tanzanians to have access to banking services on their fingertips. Witnessing the transformative impact of technology on Tanzanian’s financial inclusion is what fuels her passion for her role and career.
In her vision for Tanzania, Millie aims for 80% of the population to have access to banking services at minimal cost. Leveraging UBX’s infrastructure, which supports over seventeen (17) banks in Tanzania through UmojaSwitch, she envisions expanding the reach of Tanzanian financial institutions to serve even more people.
