Seronga Wangwe serves as the Managing Director and CEO at UBX Tanzania LTD, formerly known as Business Connexion (T) LTD. With a tenure spanning from 2007 to the present, he expertly manages the organization and directs it toward achieving both short-term and long-term operational and financial growth objectives.
His impressive career also includes pivotal roles at leading institutions. As an Operations Manager at Business Connexion (T) Ltd, he steered the implementation and operations of the innovative shared ATM infrastructure known as UmojaSwitch. Seronga’s contributions propelled him into the position of Managing Director at BCX, where he provided strategic leadership and ensured the company’s growth objectives were met.
Before his BCX role, Seronga was the ICT Manager at the Capital Markets and Securities Authority (CMSA) from 2004 to 2007. Here, he skillfully managed the IT Department and played a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the first Automated Trading System for the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE).
In 1994, Seronga commenced his career as a trainee IT consultant at Coopers and Lybrand (now PwC). Subsequently, in 1995, he joined the Bank of Tanzania (BOT) as a Payment Systems Analyst. In 2000, he assumed the role of Project Manager, overseeing various payment system projects responsible for processing high-value payment transactions within the country. His expertise extended beyond Tanzania, as he represented the nation to the South African Development Community (SADC) Payment System coordinated project team. During his time at BOT, he was a Payment System Consultant to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) through its East Africa Regional Technical Assistance Center (East AFRITAC) specifically provided Technical Assistance on Payment System modernization to Zambia, Lesotho and Kenya.
Seronga holds a Master’s in Business Administration, specializing in Finance, earned from the University of Dar Es Salaam in 2008. He also possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the same institution. Furthermore, he is recognized as an Accredited Payment System Fellow by the Macro-Economic and Financial and Management Institute (MEFMI) in Harare.
One of his noteworthy achievements is turning around UBX Tanzania Limited (formerly BCX) in just five years, transforming it from a loss-making position into a thriving company with impressive financial figures. Under his leadership, the company achieved significant milestones such as becoming the first and only payment processor for International Payment Schemes like VISA and China Union Pay.
Seronga’s aspires to build a dependable and trusted fintech organization, earning the confidence of both the government and the private sector within the country and across the East African region. By driving strategic partnerships and building solutions that best fit the local environment of the markets, he believes this vision will be achieved.
